Canberra's New Women and Children's Hospital

Today the HCCA team attended the community open day for the new Centenary Women and Children's Hospital on the Canberra Hospital campus.  It was wonderful to be there and see such strong community interest in the new hospital.  




ACT Health Directorate have planned to relocate the Paediatric Unit with maternity services, neonatal intensive care unit, gynaecology and fetal medicine as well as specialised outpatient services. Today the community was able to walk through the hospital and see the results of the planning, design, consultation and construction.




HCCA had a stall set up on the third floor, in the Birth Centre.  We were there in force with staff, consumer representatives and the Executive Committee present.  We all had a tour and spoke to people about their thoughts.

The support for the new facility was very positive.  People were impressed with the natural light and the way in which the windows framed the trees and sky outside.  People were also very pleased with the colour scheme - the painting on the walls, the curtains and fabric on the lounges.

Many people in the HCCA membership have birthed at the Birth Centre.  We were very interested to see the improvements to the facilities and amenities.  It is really beautiful.
